Telemarketing
Persistent sales calls — warranties, insurance, energy plans — often ignoring do-not-call registries.
81,488 complaints in this category in our database, sourced from FTC/FCC filings and community reports. Updated daily.
How it works
Not every unwanted call is a scam: high-pressure but nominally legal telemarketing — extended car warranties, insurance quotes, energy switching, charity fundraising — makes up a large share of complaint volume. Many operations ignore do-not-call registries entirely, treating fines as a cost of doing business.
The line to fraud is blurry: 'warranty' pitches in particular frequently cross into misrepresentation. Checking a number's report history tells you whether you're dealing with a pushy salesperson or a boiler room.
If you get one
- Register on your country's do-not-call list — it filters the legal operators.
- Ask for the company's name and callback number; refusal is a red flag.
- Report repeat offenders — volume and recency drive enforcement.
